Scar Revision or Excision
Scars from prior facial trauma or surgery, especially on the face or neck, can present a cosmetic concern.
In many cases, despite the best initial treatment, lacerations can scar unfavourably due to the trauma to the surrounding tissue. Surgical incisions can also become problematic if they do not heal favourably, either due to inappropriate orientation or closure of the incision, or due to inadequate post-operative wound care or an overactive healing process.
In many circumstances, facial scars can be re-excised, and with careful attention to the orientation of the incision, precise closure and correct instruction for post-operative care, an improved result achieved. In other circumstances, wound massage, topical wound therapy or steroid application may also be of benefit.
Your surgeon will be able to undertake a thorough assessment and advise you of all of the available options.
