Anaesthetic Options

We offer the following anaesthetic options for your surgery:

Local anaesthetic

Treatment under local anaesthetic (numbing injections) can be done in our clinic, for tissue biopsies and other minor surgical procedures.

In some cases, suitable patients may also have a mild oral sedative, if required - however you must be accompanied by an adult, and cannot drive following your procedure. Please discuss with your surgeon at your pre-operative consult, if you do wish to consider this option.

Local anaesthetic with IV sedation

This option is applicable for some procedures, for example removal of skin lesions. Anaesthetic medication is administered intra-venously by a Specialist Anaesthetist, to help you relax for your surgery. Local anaesthetic (numbing injections) are used to numb the surgical site once the sedation has taken effect. This is done in a hospital setting.

Please note that we do not currently offer an IV sedation service for surgical treatment done in the clinic.

General anaesthetic

A general anaesthetic allows you to be asleep for your surgery, and is administered by a Specialist Anaesthetist, in a hospital setting.

For patients requiring general anaesthetic, Dr Armstrong operates at the following private hospitals:

A general anaesthetic requires fasting for at least 6 hours before surgery, and you cannot drive for at least 24 hours following surgery.

Costs vary between these options, but the main priority is always based on the safest option for you, and the nature of your surgical procedure.
